Top pick: #3 (SHIMBA) (7-2) - Colt is cutting back in distance and switching from turf to dirt for start number two. Heavily backed in his debut, $320K yearling purchase raced evenly while wide in what was a nice educational first attempt. Son of "Exchange Rate" has since come back with a trio of sharp works on the local training track, and is the horse to beat.
2nd pick: #2 (Dusk to Dawn) (5-1) - Speedy gelding has been freshened up since May 16 when he tired after setting a swift pace at this level and distance at Belmont Park. Working nicely for his return, and it's noted that this Broman runner has been backed heavily in both appearances.
3rd pick: #5 (Cuantos) (10-1) - Colt showed some ability in his debut at Belmont in late June and has since come back with a pair of sharp works at Monmouth Park. The horse that won that day looks like a good one, and this colt must be left in the mix at a big price.
4th pick: #6 (Curious Cal) (3-1) - Speed/stalker has been competitive in three straight since lasix was added, and last out he finished fourth at Belmont going a mile. Barn cuts him back in distance, and gelding by "Cowboy Cal" cannot be ignored.
