Top pick: #3 (VENEMOUS) - European import comes here with some lofty "Time Form" numers (their rough equivalent to Byer figures) and he finished a close up third in an important Group 1 contest in France on May 15. Races with lasix for the first time and this strong finisher can take this if he avoids traffic in a ver large field.
2nd pick: #13 (Midnight Interlude) - Thought he received a "bad" ride two back when he ran fourth in the La Jolla H (G2) at Del Mar, then came back and lost by a nose in a strong effort three weeks later in the Del Mar Derby(G2). Obvious contender but he'll need to work out a trip from a very poor post.
3rd pick: #1 (Great Warrior) - Has a fine turf raecord (6-1-3-2) and comes into this off a career best whenhe was an easy winner of the $50K Pomona Derby at Fairplex on Sept. 24. Has enough speed to stay close and draws the best post. Win threat at a nice price.
4th pick: #6 (Thirtyfirststreet) - He just failed to last in the La Jolla (G2), then tired late in the Del Mar Derby (G2) last out. Capable, and Pat Valenzuela will give him every chance as he rides this colt for the first time.
