Training fast, he shortens up a furlong, and Baffert has won with 19 of 57 (33%) second-time starters in 2019-20.
2nd pick: #11 (Lane Way) (7-2) - This colt by 'Into Mischief' sold for $550,000 as a 2yo in training in March of last year. He's finished 2nd in all three attempts and has had the misfortune of catching very talented fields in each outing. Training nicely, he shortens up in distance, and has blinkers on.
3rd pick: #4 (Big Mel) (4-1) - The second of the Baffert pair, this $800,000 son of 'Quality Road' has some very fast local works on view. Baffert has won at a 30% rate first time out since Jan. 1 of 2019, and this colt would be no surprise.
4th pick: #9 (Valuation) (6-1) - A debuting son of 'Liam's Map,' he's working very fast for Simon Callaghan, 27% first out in 2019-20. The colt drilled a bullet from the gate here in 00:47.40, the best of 75 at the distance April 25.
5th pick: #5 (Rayray) (30-1) - This huge longshot has been idle since late June of last year. A NEW gelding, he's working fast, has racing experience, and may grab a minor award at a very big price.
