Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #8 (CAPTAIN AKERS) (2-1) - Speedy sort 'won' by a 'nose' last out at Los Alamitos going 6.5 furlongs for a $30K tag. However, he was disqualified and placed 2nd for 'drifting out' a bit near the finish. Trainer Steve Miyadi drops him down a bit, shortens him up a 1/16th of a mile, and replaces apprentice Pena with Edwin Maldanado.
nd pick: #5 (Magic Taste) (5-1) - NEW gelding is racing for the first time since July at Del Mar. He's been competitive several times facing tougher and had a sharp half-mile work here May 8. Can factor if ready.
rd pick: #6 (Bistro Lights) (7-2) - 'Nibbler' has been freshened up since an even 4th place finish here at this level going five furlongs March 20. Training steadily for his return, he's capable of impacting with his best.
th pick: #1 (Sugaratmidnight) (6-1) - One of three making their debuts, gelding is bred for speed, and has the rail. Good small barn (Blake Heap) has had him work a dozen times since Feb. 13th.
th pick: #4 (Charlie Monkey) (15-1) - Another of the first-time-starters, grey colt is another bred for speed. In the barn of veteran Eddie Truman, and this 3yo may factor at a big price if ready.
