Top pick: #5 (ROCKET TRAIN) - Colt by "Silver Train" is improving and last out finished 5th of 11, beaten just under 4 lengths facing special weights going 9 furlongs Feb. 16. He had a tough outside post that day and draws better in this spot. Trainer Mike Mitchell drops him into a claimer for the first time and will shorten him up a furlong. The top choice, he's one of two entered by Mitchell and the pair race uncoupled.
2nd pick: #10 (Our Merv) - The second of the Mitchell duo finished third here as the heavy favorite going "down the hill" Feb. 19. Irish-bred colt stretches-out in distance, races with blinkers off, and races "tagged" for the first time. He completes a strong hand from the barn.
3rd pick: #8 (Trucial State) - Improving colt finished strongly to just miss racing on the local dirt facing weaker Feb. 17. Race was his first in 2 1/2 months and he was claimed that afternoon by John Sadler for $50K. Raises in price and has lasix added in his first for the new connections. Stretch threat.
