Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #1 (SMILING ANGELO) (3-1) - One of three making their debuts, this 3yo has some very fast local works on view for trainer Phil D'Amato (16% first out). Bred for speed, he drilled an extremely fast five-furlong bullet from the gate April 23. If he runs to that drill, the rest are in trouble.
2nd pick: #6 (Flynn) (7-2) - Well backed (7-2) when debuting here at this level going six furlongs April 5, he raced close up while wide, and held to finish 3rd after losing a lot of ground on the turn. He's worked twice since and is a win candidate today.
3rd pick: #2 (Jonas) (4-1) - Another making his first start, home bred is in the barn of Peter Miller (18% first out). In steady training since early Feb., many of the works are on the quick side, and the very selective Victor Espinoza is aboard.
4th pick: #5 (Righteous Wave) (5-1) - One of two entered by trainer Bruce Headley, this 4yo moves up in class after finishing a pace-chasing 2nd here at this distance for a $50K tag April 14. Only his second start, it was his first in just under a year, and he must be left in the mix today.
