It was his first race in a half-year and is making back-to-back starts for the first time since last spring. It's apprentice Roman off and both Bejarano and blinkers on.
2nd pick: #5 (Langham) (9-5) - The morning line and probable favorite, $460,000 purchase rallied strongly to miss by less than a length going a mile July 15 at Del Mar. Nice debut, but he must have been injured to go right to the sidelines for eight months. Working steadily and is an obvious threat if ready.
3rd pick: #6 (Ziconic) (5-1) - Home bred by 'Tapit' has been away since early June. No speed type is racing on the grass for the first time and is bred for the surface. Working steadily, he may need a race before being at his best.
4th pick: #1 (Orion's Belt) (8-1) - Away for 13 months, he has some speed, and breaks from the rail. 5yo cost $250,000 as a yearling back in 2013, so he was bred to have some talent. His inside post and the presence of Kent Desormeaux are a plus if he's ready.
5th pick: #2 (Latitude) (15-1) - NEW gelding has some fine works showing for his first since Oct. 16. 4yo raced evenly while wide in his only previous grass start, and he fits on figures if in shape.
