Top pick: #1 (BIG HAT CHARLIE) (8-1) - Price play is working fast for his first since Dec. 21 at Los Alamitos. He had a wide trip that day after breaking from an outside post. He moves to the rail, is the only entered with racing experience, and that should help this $100K son of "Indian Charlie" be competitive.
2nd pick: #3 (Yiannis) (7-2) - He sold for $560K last April as a 2-year-old in training. In the Sadler barn (18% first out) has been working fast locally for some time now. Looks all set for his initial public appearance.
3rd pick: #4 (Gimme Da Lute) (3-1) - One of two from the powerful barn of Bob Baffert (17% first out). Son of "Midnight Lute" has worked four times in January and all have been on the quick side. Stable rider Marty Garcia winds up here.
4th pick: #2 (Z Beshsa) (6-1) - The second of the Baffert runners, grey colt by "Ghostzapper" is working steadily, but not as fast as the top three selections. He may get ignored in the wagering and could factor at a big price.
