Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #9 (JOHNNY RAY) (3-1) - He's a very large horse and usually needs about a half-mile before gaining his best stride. He finished 2nd here going 6.5 furlongs May 25 in his first at this $20,000 claiming price and will travel an additional 1/16th today. Gelding draws a nice outside post at this trip, and 'Hall of Famer' Gary Stevens stays aboard.
2nd pick: #2 (Blaze of Glory) (2-1) - The morning line favorite, colt takes a big drop in class for this attempt. He's raced evenly here in his first pair facing much tougher. Along with the drop he sheds seven lbs, and trainer Rick Mandella adds blinkers. Son of 'Street Sense' is a strong win candidate at a short price.
3rd pick: #7 (Rak City) (7-2) - One of several older runners entered, 4yo has been freshened up for the past two months. Grey gelding has shown some ability on the turf facing tougher and is taking a big drop in price while switching to the dirt. Working steadily for Phil D'Amato, he's nicely spotted and should be competitive in this contest.
4th pick: #3 (Captain N Barron) (5-1) - He raced evenly here at this tag going 5.5 furlongs May 20. 3yo seemed a bit uncomfortable breaking from the rail in a large field (10) before making up some ground in the final furlong. He has more early speed than shown that day, moves off the inside here, and is stretching out in distance. He has a shot at a square price if left alone on the lead in the first half-mile.
