Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #2 (MONTEREY SHALE) (8-5) - The probable favorite, speedy gelding is taking a big drop in price for this attempt. He's been competitive many times in the past facing much tougher and finished 3rd here facing $50K Cal bred maidens March 19. He's worked three times since, and along with a big drop, Bejarano is back aboard following a five-race absence.
2nd pick: #4 (Specimen) (5-2) - Well bred 6yo has been on the sidelines since Sept. 17. He missed by a half-length that afternoon facing tougher in a two-turn grass contest following a 'nose' loss at this tag traveling a mile on the Del Mar dirt Aug. 11. A win candidate if ready off the seven-month layoff.
3rd pick: #5 (Awesome Image) (8-1) - He has some early speed, but is not as fast as 'Monterey Shale.' He's been competitive several times in the past from a stalking spot and can grab a share if that tactic is used today.
4th pick: #7 (Julia's Summer) (15-1) - Longshot is a possibility to complete the bottom of either the tri or super. Longtime maiden tends to race evenly, and a minor award is his ceiling.
