Top pick: #3 (WHOYOUGONNACALL) (3-1) - Like the majority entered this 2-year-old will be trying a two-turn distance for the first time. Speed/stalker set/pressed a quick pace and held gamely to finish third here at this tag going 6-furlongs on Oct. 2. It was his first since debuting at Del Mar on Aug. 7 and trainer Phil D'Amato has him making back-to-back starts for the first time. Barn wins at a 21% rate on the stretch out and this gelding by "Ghostzapper" is bred to enjoy the added real estate.
2nd pick: #1 (Slapshot Man) (5-2) - Speedy sort won a dirt sprint at Los Alamitos on Sept. 19 but was disqualified and placed second. He exits the same last race as "Whoyougonnacall" and was involved from gate-to-wire. He's worked fast since, has the rail, and is a win candidate.
3rd pick: #6 (Empire Cat) (6-1) - Price play raced evenly while between horses in the same last race as the top two choices. He's worked twice since and it's noted he's been bet in his last pair and is racing second off a two-month freshening. Believe he's a threat at a square price.
4th pick: #7 (Tiz Jolie) (7-2) - He's taking the big drop into claimers for the first time and is also racing without blinkers for the first time. He's going third off a three month layoff and is working fast at Los Alamitos.
