Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #8 (MONTEREY SHALE) (3-1) - Lightly-raced 4-year-old has raced evenly in all four starts. The latest pair have been at this level and distance on the grass. Freshened up since Aug 17, gelding by 'Hard Spun' has a fine series of works showing and runs with blinkers on. He gets a slight edge.
2nd pick: #4 (Awesome Image) (12-1) - The main speed, longshot moves back up in class, switches from dirt to grass, and is stretching out in distance. All of those changes come first of a John Brocklebank claim. Think this colt is a win candidate at a big price.
3rd pick: #7 (Elkhorn Crown) (7-2) - Grey colt is lightly-raced and improving. Stalker missed by less than a length at this level Sept. 1 at Del Mar. A career best, it was this his first start on the grass and he's worked fast since. Win candidate.
4th pick: #6 (He Could) (4-1) - Gelding is only 2.5 months away from his sixth birthday and is still seeking his maiden win. He has some ability, but was 7.5-lengths behind 'Elkhorn Crown' Sept. 1 and 3.5 lengths in back of 'Monterey Shale' here last June. Can grab a share, but needs to do better in this spot.
