2nd pick: #5 (Jean Edward) (5-2) - She rallied from far back to finish second at odds of 42-1 at Los Alamitos Dec. 21st. It was her first since debuting last June and first on the dirt. Home bred is making back-to-back starts for the first time and is a stretch threat.
3rd pick: #4 (Tale of Papa Nick) (4-1) - One of two fillies making their debuts, she's been in steady training here since late October. Several of the works indicate speed is present, including a bullet 5-furlong drill on Jan. 8th.
4th pick: #7 (Seek a Star) (6-1) - Considering her regal breeding, this filly has been a big disappointment. Daughter of "Smart Strike" tends to race evenly and is cutting back in distance after finishing a non-threatening fourth here at this level going a mile just 10-days ago. This field is a bit weak and she may factor at a square price.
