He had some serious traffic issues nearing the 1/4 pole and was only beaten a length. He's worked fast since and trainer Bob Baffert wins at a 25% rate second time out.
2nd pick: #4 (Honor and Courage) (8-5) - The morning line favorite, he rallied to miss by a 'nose' when racing here in the slop Dec. 31. By far a career best, he's clearly improving and is a strong win candidate.
3rd pick: #1 (Sonneteer) (7-2) - The field's most experienced maiden, stretch runner ships back from Golden Gate Fields where he rallied while wide to finish fourth in the $100K California Derby. Competitive in three straight prior to that when facing maidens, he's a late threat in today's opener.
