He came off a 5-month layoff Feb 1 and put in a big effort in his first turf start, dueling most of the way before tiring to finish 4th in a sprint down the hill. He probably needed the race for a trainer who rarely wins off layoffs, and now drops in class from open to Cal-bred company. He's put in two more works since his return race, including a solid 7F stamina move Feb 25, and trainer Paddy Gallagher has been on a bit of a roll over the last two weeks.
