#1 EVALUATE (5/2) This son of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus ran huge in his debut to finish 2nd behind a 3-5 winner who set a slow pace and finished extremely fast. Evaluate broke slowly and was last of all behind that slow early pace, then made a monstrous 4-wide move on the turn and in upper stretch to circle all but the winner. Not only did Evaluate have the slow pace working against him, but he also had to make his move against the grain of a strong speed bias. He ran out of steam late but still finished a game 2nd. With a cleaner start and a more fair track (hopefully) this time out he should be hard to beat. Leading trainer Baffert wins 20% with second time starters and keeps his main rider aboard.
