Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #2 (STANFORD) (8-5) - Early in 2015 this colt was well thought of by trainer Todd Pletcher and was considered possible Kentucky Derby material. However, following a 'neck' defeat in the Louisians Derby (G2) in late march he suffered a minor injury and missed all three Triple Crown events. He's now back in top form and enters off an easy win in the rich Charles Town Classic (G2) April 23. It earned him a career best figure and 4-year-old colt has been training fast since.
2nd pick: #1 (Page McKenney) (7-2) - Long time Maryland stakes veteran has won sixteen-times overall, five on the grass and 11 on the dirt. Since the beginning of 2015, he's gone 13-7-4-2 and last out finished a solid second to 'Stanford' in the Charles Town Classic (G2). He's won here before, has the rail, and is s strong factor.
3rd pick: #7 (Noble Bird) (3-1) - He won the rich and prestigious Stephen Foster Handicap (G1) in June of 2015 at Churchill Downs, but has only been competitive in one of four since then. He has some speed, is working fast, and figure earned almost a year ago is the highest any of these has attained.
4th pick: #3 (Savoy Stomp) (15-1) - He's an uncoupled barn-mate of 'Stanford' as both are trained by Todd Pletcher. Very lightly-raced, he's a 'lower class' performer for Pletcher, and unless he runs a career best, a minor award is his ceiling.
