Top pick: #3 (VARIABILITY) (5-2) - Lightly-raced colt takes on winners for the first time. Three-year-old was a wire-to-wire winner here going 8.5-furlongs for a $10K tag May 19. Trainer Lou Linder Jr. has him conservatively spotted today and this son of 'High Cotton' meets a weak field.
2nd pick: #4 (Tiz John) (5-1) - Very lightly-raced colt takes a big drop after being pulled up here when racing for a $25K tag May 25. It was his first off a claim and he was very keyed up after the gate opened. Capable barn drops him back down to what they claimed him for ($7500). A win candidate.
3rd pick: #8 (Son of Posse) (4-1) - Stretch-out sprinter has been racing evenly at this level in his last pair going shorter. He fits with his best figures and gets a rider upgrade this afternoon.
4th pick: #6 (Red Dirt Racer) (3-1) - Speedy sort has been tiring during the stretch run in his last three starts. There's not a lot of other pace signed on and he could be a serious factor if allowed to get an uncontested lead in the first 1/2 mile.
