Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #1 (IMPROBABLE) (2-1) - Colt went undefeated in three starts in 2018 after getting started a bit late to run in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). He did win a $100K stakes on the undercard of Day one of the 'Cup,' then closed out his year with an easy win in the $500K Los Alamitos Futurity(G1) going 8.5 furlongs Dec 8. Following that contest he was sent in for almost a 3.5 month layoff returning here in Divisison 1 Rebel Stakes (G2) March 16. He missed by a 'head' that afternoon to today's rival 'Long Range Toddy' and has been working fast since. Son of 'City Zip' has the rail and trainer Bob Baffert has him set for a winning effort.
2nd pick: #3 (Omaha Beach) (3-1) - A quickly developing son of 'War Front', he broke his maiden going 7 furlongs at Santa Anita Feb. 2 and did so in very fast time (1:21). Sent here for the Rebel Stakes (G2) March 16, in Division 2 of that $750K contest, he defeated last year's 2yo champ 'Game Winner' by a 'nose'. Working very for this attempt, he's an obvious win candidate and has valuable 'off' track experience a with rain in the forecast.
3rd pick: #5 (Laughing Fox) (20-1) - A $375K son of 'Union Rags,' he's one of four horses entered by trainer Steve Asmussen and they all race as separate betting interests. He won his first pair at the meet, then has a rough trip when 12 lengths behind 'Omaha Beach' last out. Stretch runner is another that has sharp works and think he's capable of impacting at a big price.
4th pick: #6 (Gray Attempt) (8-1) - The main speed, he won the Smarty Jones Stakes here going a mile Jan. 25, then tired badly in the Southwest Stakes (G3) Feb. 18. Shortened up for the 6 furlong Gazebo March 23, he was an easy gate-to-wire winner by 3.5 lengths. Colt worked a bullet 5 furlongs in :58.60 April 5 and will take them as far as he can.
