Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #5 (MUCHO GUSTO) (5-2) - Colt has gone 7-5-1-1 on the West Coast and enters off a pair of easy back-to-back stakes wins at Santa Anita. Very fast fro the gate, he's from the barn of Bob Baffert. The Hall of Fame member has won this race an incredible eight times since 2004 and has this $625K son of 'Mucho Macho Man' training fast for this attempt. I give him a slight edge.
2nd pick: #1 (King for a Day) (3-1) - A late developing colt by 'Uncle Mo', he defeated 'Maximum Security' by a length here in the $150,000 Pegasus Stakes going 8.5 furlongs June 16. Stalker has won both starts as a 3yo since returning off a 6 month layoff May 18 and earned a big triple digit figure here last out. Home bred ships down from Saratoga off a pair of fast works on the training track, has the rail, and is a strong win candidate.
3rd pick: #7 (Maximum Security) (8-5) - Home bred was disqualified from a win in the Kentucky Derby (G1) that remains a strong talking point from those in the industry. He followed that up by missing by a length here to 'King for a Day' in the Pegasus Stakes June 16. Colt had no visible excuse that day and draws a tough outside post for this assignment. He'll probably be sent hard from the gate and will need his very best to win this at a short price.
