Top pick: #8 (THE GRUMBLER) (9-2) - One of two entered by trainer Marty Jones and this looks like the better of that pair. Gelding raced both wide and evenly last out facing tougher on the Santa Anita turf. It was his first off a three month break and Jones moves him to the dirt, drops him way down, and shortens him up in distance. Gets a slight edge.
2nd pick: #4 (Stenoa) (6-1) - Lightly-raced and speedy, grey gelding finished 5th of 10, beaten 8 1/2 lengths racing at this tag going 7-furlongs at Santa Anita June 6. It was his first off a 13-month layoff and he's worked three times since, all on the quick side. Win candidate.
3rd pick: #5 (Black Tie) (5-1) - Four-year-old is dropping back down in class, switching back to the dirt, and cutting back in distance. Competitive in both starts at this tag, stalker must be left in the mix.
4th pick: #2 (Tiz All That) (12-1) - The second of the Jones pair, he has some early speed and is racing off 7-week freshening. He ran 2nd here facing tougher last Dec and earned a career best figure that day. Can factor at a big price with a repeat of that effort.
