Top pick: #1 (MR SPEAKER) (3-1) - Promising Phipp's home-bred raced evenly when debuting at Saratoga in late August and has gone 5-2-1-1 since. Colt by "Pulpit" is a stakes winner on the grass and has a flexible running style. Freshened up since March 1st, he's racing on a synthetic surface for the first time and had a sharp half-mile work here on April 6th.
2nd pick: #3 (Dynamic Impact) (12-1) - Longshot steps way up in class after breaking his maiden at Oaklawn Park on March 1st. He ran well here last fall, is working fast, and has a shot at a very big price.
3rd pick: #2 (Solitary Ranger) (6-1) - Clearly the main speed, he's also the field's most experienced runner 7-3-2-0. Colt was an easy winner on a similar surface at Turfway Park of a $100K stakes March 1st, but tired badly last out there in the "Spiral" stakes (G3). There's not a lot of other pace signed on and that gives this bargain priced ($20K) yearling a fighting chance at long odds.
4th pick: #10 (Supermonic) (8-1) - One of three entered by trainer Todd Pletcher and colt is only one of two that has won here in the past. Son of "Latent Heat" went gate-to-wire to win an entry-level allowance by 7 1/2 lengths at this distance just one week ago. Dangerous on the quick turnaround.
5th pick: #6 (Divine Oath) (3-1) - Another of the Pletcher trio, lightly raced colt is undefeated (2 for 2) with both wins coming on the Gulfstream turf. He has a versatile running style and it's of note that J.J. Castellano stays aboard.
