He had finished second in three straight on the dirt prior to that, is training steadily at Payson park, and I give him a slight edge if ready.
2nd pick: #5 (Magical Mike) (8-1) - NEW gelding ran well sprinting in his debut here on the dirt Jan. 15, then went evenly in a 10-furlong grass contest Feb 8. He's back on the dirt and trainer Saffie Joseph Jr who is 29 of 104 (28%) at the meeting is adding blinkers (21%).
3rd pick: #2 (Beau Luminaire) (3-1) - Lightly raced gelding missed by a 1/2 length here going 6 furlongs Dec. 22. Only his second start, it was his first since debuting Feb. 2 of 2019. The probable speed, he's dangerous if left with an uncontested lead in the first 1/2 mile.
4th pick: #4 (Derby Date) (6-1) - He ships from the Fair Grounds where he raced both wide and evenly in a two-turn contest Jan. 25. It was his first since late Nov. of 2018 and this Calumet homebred stumbled at the break in his return. Working fast before coming from New Orleans, he could factor in this spot.
