Top pick: #3 (TORRID HEAT) (3-1) - Very lightly-raced home bred broke his maiden here at this distance on the grass Jan. 7. It was his first race since debuting at Calder on May 2nd of 2013. He broke alertly in his win and proceeded to go gate-to-wire. He meets a weak looking group and one without a lot of visible pace. The horse to beat.
2nd pick: #5 (All Cash) (7-2) - One of two entered by trainer Patty Farro and the pair race uncoupled. Barn is cutting him back in distance and has him racing third off a two month break. Well bred colt is a strong win candidate.
3rd pick: #1 (K C Wiegmann) (4-1) - He rallied to finish third here at this level and distance Jan. 14. Nice effort came despite a troubled break and some traffic issues down the stretch. Must be left in the small win mix.
4th pick: #4 (Cherokee Pass) (20-1) - The second of the Farro trained runners, he's tired in every start since breaking his maiden at Monmouth Park in early August. A pace factor, he may hold down a share at long odds.
