Top pick: #6 (DETECTIVE POIROT) - Very speedy gelding just failed to hold on here at this price and distance July 24 in his second off a claim by trainer Jack Carava. Race was his best in five starts and a repeat of it will make him very tough to catch in this spot.
2nd pick: #7 (Creston Cowboy) - He's been competitive in all three starts since trainer Art Sherman dropped him down to this $20K price in early June at Hollywood Park. Stalker has worked twice since finishing second here July 24 and a repeat of that effort makes him dangerous.
3rd pick: #1 (Onebadboy) - Has a bit of traffic trouble last out and finished fourth only 1 1/2 lengths back of "Creston". Draws the rail, runs third off the layoff and trainer Brian Koriner adds blinkers for the first time. Win candidate.
4th pick: #3 (What A Goldmine) - Freshened-up since late June at Hollywood Park, gelding has a fast half-mile work here 12 days ago that suggests he's going to come back a better horse. Barn wins at 22% rate off of this type of layoff and 3-year-old should be a big price.
