Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #7 (THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY) (2-1) - He's shipping back from Monmouth where he tired in the rich Haskel Invitational July 30. He had to rush up following a poor beginning so the race can be viewed as a 'toss.' Earlier this year he finished second in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and third in the Kentucky Derby (G1). Gets a slight edge.
2nd pick: #6 (Klimt) (3-1) - He was considered Kentucky Derby material last fall when he won the Del Mar Futurity (G1). However following a poor effort in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile G1) Nov 5 he was injured and did not return until July 15. He finished second that day in the Los Alamitos Derby (G3) and has worked here three times since. A major factor with his best.
3rd pick: #1 (Cistron) (10-1) - Longshot has ability, good early speed, and he breaks from the rail. Working fast locally, he can be dangerous at a big price if he's left alone on the lead.
4th pick: #4 (Gato Del Oro) (4-1) - Lightly-raced and well bred, he's won two in a row and moves way up in class for this attempt. The figure earned here at this trip July 19 fits with these if repeatable.
