Top pick: #11 (QUALITY PLAN) (5-2) - Colt was an impressive wire-to-wire maiden winner here a year ago, but hasn't seen action since. $350K son of "Elusive Quality" has been working very fast for his return, draws a nice outside post at this distance, and trainer Bob Baffert wins at a 28% rate off of long layoffs.
nd pick: #10 (Storm Power) (3-1) - Recent maiden winner at Santa Anita, he did so off a 10-month layoff and a private trainer change to Bob Diodoro. Gelding has worked well since, is lightly raced, and has room for upside.
rd pick: #3 (Raised a Secret) (8-1) - Steady performer has gone 16-2-5-5 overall, is 6-1-3-2 on synthetic surfaces, and is 2-1-0-1 locally. Freshened up since June 1st, stalker fits well with these and is a win candidate at a square price.
th pick: #2 (My Slew) (6-1) - He's back in shape after coming off a 6 1/2 month layoff on May 16th and ships in from Los Alamitos off a strong effort on July 4th. He's won here in the past and must be left in the mix.
th pick: #8 (Kate's Event) (15-1) - Veteran races first off a Ted West claim and he's dropping him in class following almost a six week break. Cal. bred is a former stakes winner and strong finisher may gran a share at a big price.
