Top pick: #4 (DIVA EXPRESS) (3-1) - This is one of the best overall fields of 2yos of either sex that has run so far at this meet. This filly by "Afleet Alex" chased and held to finish second when debuting here July 20. She raced a bit wide that day, draws better this afternoon, and trainer Mark Casse had her work five-furlongs Aug. 3. Gets a slight edge.
2nd pick: #5 (Maybellene) (7-2) - In the Baffert barn, she exits the same July 20 race as "Diva," and tired late to finish third, just under a length back of that rival. She moves off the rail, runs without blinkers, and worked a solid half-mile August 4 for a trainer that wins at a 27% clip second time out.
3rd pick: #1 (Manahatta) (5-2) - One of four debuting fillies, she has some very impressive works showing for "Hall of Famer" Jerry Hollendorfer (33% first out). A big bullet half-mile breeze here Aug. 6, and the presence of Bejarano (34% when riding for the barn) means that she's in the win mix.
4th pick: #7 (Windy Forecast) (4-1) - Another debuting filly, she cost $260K this past April and has been working extremely fast locally for her first public appearance. Barn (Simon Callaghan) isn't known for first out success, but there are exceptions to every rule. Don't just dismiss.
