Top pick: #7 (GLOBAL EVENT) (7-2) - He's making his debut off of a steady and above average work tab showing. In the Baffert barn (24% first out with 2yos), this son of 'Pioneer of the Nile' sold for $685,000 this past March as a 2yo in training. One of three from the top barns on the So. Cal circuit, and I'll give him a slight edge.
2nd pick: #9 (Who's Out) (4-1) - From the Hollendorfer barn, $350K purchase was training fast at Los Alamitos before working a bullet 3-furlongs here July 29. Trainer wins at a solid 29% first out, and this colt looks set for a big effort.
3rd pick: #8 (Semper Fortis) (3-1) - Trainer Doug O'Neill set a Del Mar record the other day by winning five races on the same card. This colt by 'Distorted Humor' cost $525K last Sept. and has some sharp looking works on his a.m. tab. Must be left in the mix.
