Top pick: #9 (SKY PREACHER) (7-2) - Coly by "Sky Mesa" is only one of two entered who has won on the grass. Speed/stalker was an impressive maiden winner going a mile on the Santa Anita lawn in late June and did so after being involved in an early pace duel thru fast fractions. Working well for his return and he's the horse to beat.
nd pick: #3 (Dallas Skyline) (3-1) - He's the other with a win on the grass which he did here at this distance when debuting on July 30. Colt by "Scat Daddy" was bet down to 5-2 favoritism and rallied from just off the pace to win going away. Trainer Cody Autry has worked him three times since and all have been above average. Win candidate.
rd pick: #1 (Daddy D T) (8-1) - Another by "Scat Daddy" maiden raced both wide and evenly when debuting in a 6.5-furlong race on the main track Aug. 9. He's worked three times since, has the rail, and think he's a "live" longshot.
th pick: #8 (Pioneer of the West) (15-1) - Maiden was away a bit slowly when debuting here at this distance on the main track Aug. 20. He was unhurried and would eventually report home 5th of 10, beaten 7-lengths in a good initial effort. Trainer Mark Casse brings him back quickly and this son of "Pioneer of the Nile" is bred to enjoy the turf.
th pick: #2 (Papacoolpapacool) (6-1) - He outran his breeding when finishing second to "Dallas Skyline" when debuting here on July 30th. He only cost $2200 and trainer Jeff Mullins has worked him four times since. Can factor, but believe others are more likely to win this.
