Top pick: #6 (MINT HUMOR) - Lightly raced gelding has been sharp in both starts, has fine early speed, and meets a field very "light" on experience. He finished 3rd beaten a length at Hollywood July 2nd and that was his first since finishing 2nd in his debut last Nov. Trainer Carla Gaines brings him back quickly and 3yo will be making back to back starts for the first time. The horse to beat.
2nd pick: #7 (He Be Fire N Ice) - Grey colt hasn't run since he finished 3rd here on Sep. 3 of 2010. Working faast at Hollywood Park for his return and runs off a trainer change to veteran Ron Ellis. Trainer is very good off of long layoffs (21%) and this son of "Unusual Heat" is a threat if ready.
3rd pick: #8 (Field Report) - "Firster' by "Benchmark" is a home-bred from the fine Wygood operation and he's working steadily for trainer John Sadler (19% first out). He's one of a pair from the trainer and they'll race uncoupled. His main rider (Joel Rosario) takes this colt.
4th pick: #3 (Surplus) - Colt by "In Excess" is the 2nd of the Sadler pair. Working steadily and above average, Victor Espinoza is aloft, and he wins at a 20% clip when riding for Sadler.
