Top pick: #6 (BURNING) (2-1) - The probable favorite, he's been competitive in four of his five outings, and is a much better horse since coming back from almost a nine-month layoff in late June. Colt missed by a "head" here on Aug. 17 racing at this tag & trip and earned the highest "figure" any of these has achieved. The horse to beat.
nd pick: #7 (Stolen Property) (8-1) - Longshot raced evenly while having some traffic issues just after the 1/4 pole. It was a useful effort and came off a two month break. Working well since and think he'll be more involved today with Marty Pedroza getting aboard.
rd pick: #4 (Stauffenberg) (6-1) - Veteran maiden rallied from far back to finish second here at this tag & trip on Aug. 8. It came off a seven-week freshening and earned him a career best "figure." A strong threat if repeatable.
th pick: #2 (Canopus) (12-1) - Lightly raced gelding tired after rushing up following a "bumping" incident at the start here Aug. 8. It was his first since late Dec., and 3yo was claimed that day by van Belvoir. New trainer has had a strong meet and wins at a solid 26% clip first off the claim.
th pick: #9 (Lay It On) (8-1) - Stretch out sprinter has raced evenly in two straight sprints here at this tag, and has a pair of solid works since his latest outing. Trujillo keeps the faith, and this gelding by "Flatter" must be left in the mix.
