Top pick: #3 (AIR POCKET) (3-1) - He's the rare Baffert trained runner who is better on turf than dirt. Speed/stalker has been sharp in four straight starts and is working well for this attempt. Gets a slight edge.
nd pick: #5 (Dylan Ward) (7-2) - Once promising 4-year-old has spent his entire career on the grass and has gone 8-0-4-2 to date. He's racing second back off a pair of layoffs and went evenly here at this level and distance Aug in his first since last Nov. Strong finisher has worked twice since and has blinkers added for the first time.
rd pick: #2 (Another House) (9-2) - Home bred by 'Candy Ride' rallied to check in 5th of 10, beaten just over 5-lengths when debuting at Laurel July 17. He had some traffic issues turning for home in what was a useful first outing. In a good barn (Tom Proctor) and a threat with normal second-out improvement.
th pick: #1 (Blue Law) (5-1) - Speedy grey gelding has been freshened up since June 28. He set a quick pace and held until the final furlong. Three-year-old was 1 1/2 back of 'Air Pocket' that day. He has the rail and early speed, a dangerous combination.
th pick: #7 (Unusually Big) (10-1) - Longshot showed nothing here in an 'off the turf' contest July 19. Clearly better on the grass, he's been competitive in all three turf appearances. Stretch threat.
