She's finished 2nd in two straight while sprinting at this level, and Baffert is stretching her out to a mile in this attempt. This is the horse to beat.
2nd pick: #6 (Overwhelming Love) (5-1) - One of two daughters of 'Curlin' entered, she's been competitive in two straight, one each on dirt and grass. She appears to have a flexible style, has two-turn experience, and this $285K purchase should factor.
3rd pick: #4 (This Tea) (12-1) - Longshot is the other filly by 'Curlin.' She tired badly last out when finishing 10 lengths in back of 'Himiko' here at seven furlongs, July 31. She had missed by less than a length at this distance on the grass July 11, and I think she can get a share at a big price.
4th pick: #1 (Last First Love) (3-1) - She's been competitive in four straight and was 3.5 in back of 'Himiko' here July 31, while well in front of 'This Tea.' An even-paced type, she seems to lack the killer instinct down the stretch, and I believe a minor award as the solid 2nd choice is her ceiling.
