Bet this race at Top pick: #5 (Jack Christopher) (2-1) - Chad Brown trains this speedy horse that had little trouble last time out, winning the one-mile Grade 1 Champagne Stakes, gaining a half-length advantage at the quarter pole. Jose Ortiz was the winning jockey and will be atop Saturday. "When he passed the five-horse," said Ortiz, "he stopped and didn't give me everything he had." With the experience gained, that won't be the case here.
2nd pick: #1 (Major General) (9-2) - Major General won the Iroquois Stakes last year and just finished second in the Lexington Stakes three weeks ago. At Keeneland, Major General was overtaken late by Tawny Port on the 1 1/6-mile fast track. Cutting back to one-mile for this race will help, as will the No. 1 pole position.
3rd pick: #6 (Tejano Twist) (10-1) - The odds dropped on Tejano Twist after a poor showing last month at the Lafayette Stakes. However, this horse had finished first or second in the previous seven races. At just over a mile at the Gun Runner, Tejano Twist finished second to Epicenter while running out of gas late. All that early speed will be a plus at this one-mile distance.
