Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #4 (DOUBLE TURBO) (5-1) - A lightly raced 3yo, he won his local debut here at this tag and trip by a 'head' July 13. Speed/stalker is three of six sprinting on the dirt, has room for upside, and is from the winning barn of Joel Berndt. This Florida-bred gets a slim edge.
2nd pick: #5 (Merango Tango) (3-1) - A very lightly raced 9yo, he returned from a 63.5-month layoff last December. He won his come-backer at Tampa Bay Downs, an incredible accomplishment off that absence, and has raced evenly in four starts since while facing tougher. Old-timer drops to a new low and is a win candidate.
3rd pick: #7 (Five Star Creek) (8-1) - This 6yo hasn't seen action since an even effort here Sept. 13 of last year. State-bred has run well off of similar absences in the past, is working fast, and has an excellent local record (19-5-3-4). In the mix if ready.
4th pick: #2 (Astonishing Tweet) (9-2) - This speedy Cal-bred has won nine of 22 starts on the dirt and is four for six locally. 5yo was an easy winner here facing weaker June 18, but could only manage a distant 3rd finish in his follow up July 2. The veteran is especially dangerous if he gets an uncontested early lead.
