Claimed that afternoon by Dave Donk for $25,000, he moves this veteran speed/stalker up in class for this attempt and I think he can win it at a square price.
2nd pick: #4 (Shiraz) (7-2) - He was a gate-to-wire winner here going 6 furlongs in an 'off the turf' contest Sept. 29. A career best overall, it was only his second ever racing on the dirt. With Javier Castellano opting for #1 'Syndergaard', leading rider Irad Ortiz Jr. takes over the riding assignment.
3rd pick: #1 (Syndergaard) (4-1) - Lightly-raced 4yo has raced poorly in his last pair but was bumped at the break in each. Stakes winner is working fast, has the rail, and should be involved every step with a trouble-free beginning.
4th pick: #5 (Sicilia Mike) (8-1) - He's been sharp in four straight and enters off a sharp win at this distance Sept. 3 at Saratoga. Stretch runner should receive a fast and/or contested pace to close into and is a late threat.
