Top pick: #6 (SPEIGHSTER) (3-1) - He's looked awesome in winning his first two starts. WinStar home bred has rated just off the pace in each and drew away in both to score impressive wins. Colt scored on this surface going 6.5-furlongs June 5 in his first facing winners. Three-year-old by 'Speightstown' is working fast for his first stakes attempt and first beyond 7-furlongs. I like his chances.
2nd pick: #3 (Tommy Macho) (4-1) - Another late developing 3-year-old, this colt has won two in a row here for trainer Todd Pletcher. He broke his maiden going 6.5-furlongs May 2, then was an easy winner of a first-level allowance going 8.5-furlongs June 6. Very lightly-raced and he still has plenty of room for upside.
3rd pick: #4 (Texas Red) (2-1) - The morning line favorite, he was an easy winner of last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Nov 1. Consider a 'Derby' contender, he injured himself when missing by a 'neck' in his seasonal debut Feb 1. He finished third to 'American Pharoah' last Sept in a G1 stakes, so you know he has quality. Major player if he handles this deep surface.
4th pick: #1 (Blofeld) (7-2) - He was undefeated (3-for-3) last year as a 2-year-old but was another that had some injuries over the winter. He finished third as a heavy favorite in his seasonal debut in a 6-furlong stakes at Churchill Downs April 25. Un-raced since, he won the Belmont Futurity (G2) on this surface last October. Working fast and must be left in the mix.
