Gelding was an easy wire-to-wire winner going seven furlongs Aug. 21st at Saratoga in an entry-level allowance for fellow state breds. It was his first back off a seven-week freshening and first off a trainer change to Rudy Rodriguez. Working well, he draws a good outside post for this distance, and gets a slight edge despite facing tougher.
2nd pick: #5 (Eye Luv Lulu) (5-2) - A seven-time winner in 28 starts on the dirt, he's racing first off a Jay Servis claim (a 40% winning angle) and a 70-day freshening. Hard-hitting veteran has a great record on wet tracks (six for nine) and is an obvious win candidate.
3rd pick: #6 (Jet Black) (7-2) - Speed/stalker set a pressured pace and held to finish 2nd here at this level going seven furlongs Sept. 17th. 3yo has done his best racing locally (4-2-2-0) and must be left in the mix.
4th pick: #4 (True Bet) (12-1) - His latest effort is best viewed as a 'toss' as he did not care for the grass in his first start ever on the turf. Stalker missed by a 'neck' at this level Aug. 21st at Saratoga, and a repeat of that effort makes him a threat at a big price.
