Bet this race at Diamond SportsTop pick: #8 (BORDER TOWN) (3-1) - He's one of two entered by Chad Brown, and the pair race uncoupled. Bet down to favoritism when debuting at Monmouth going a mile July 28, he had a very slow start, but then made a strong run on the far turn. And after reaching a short lead, he weakened late to finish 2nd. This son of 'War Front' has worked six times since Aug. 12 and will be tough today with a clean beginning.
2nd pick: #6 (Perceived) (4-1) - The second of the pair from Chad Brown, this NEW gelding rallied to check in 5th of eight, beaten by four lengths when debuting here at a mile June 14. Brown, 31% second time out and 27% off of long layoffs, has him working fast at Monmouth, and he completes a strong hand from the barn.
3rd pick: #10 (Chantry Flats) (7-2) - The field's only 4yo, he's gone 4-0-3-1 dating back to late October. Speed/stalker finished 2nd here April 7 in his first since then, and in his follow up ran 3rd, missing by less than a length May 9. Freshened up since, he's dangerous in this spot.
4th pick: #5 (Betterment) (10-1) - Well backed in a pair at Gulfstream early this year, he finished 3rd in his debut, then lost by just over three lengths following a wide trip next out. In steady training since mid-August, it's noted John Velazquez is aboard off the long layoff.
5th pick: #7 (Mo Fun) (10-1) - Claimed out of his first pair, he runs today first for Mike Maker a 13% winning angle. This longshot moves up in class after missing by a length for a $40K tag Sept. 8 and may grab a share at a big price.
