Top pick: #4 (THISIZSPARTA) - One of sveral fillies who spent the winter in Florida and this daughter of "Corinthian" finished fifth of 12, beaten 4 lengths when racing at this level and distance on the Gulfstream turf on Dec. 30. 3-year-old followed that up with a second-place finish in a "switched" contest there Jan. 29. Training nicely for this, she has a speed/stalking style and moves back to the grass.
2nd pick: #7 (Party of Interest) - Beautifully-bred filly was competitive in all three grass starts in 2011 and has been training very fast in Florida as she makes her 3-year-old debut this afternoon. Home-bred could take this if 100% off a five-month layoff.
3rd pick: #3 (Preach Tome Daddy) - Filly by "Scat Daddy" cost $220,000 and finished second at Gulfstream at this level Feb. 26. Race was her first on the grass and the winner came right back to take another. Trainer John Kimmel had her work three times at Palm Meadows before sending her north.
