The PGA Tour features the best golfers in the world competing over four-day tournaments.

Televised pro golfing tournaments take place many weekends during the year, highlighted by the four major golf championships (Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, The Open). There's also The Players Championship, the FedEx Cup, the finale at The Tour Championship, along with the PGA Tour Champions for golfers aged 50 and older. All of this presents bettors with many opportunities to watch, wager, and win.

Why Use PGA Golf Picks

The numbers that oddsmakers post are well thought out. They have reasoning behind them. If bettors want to win more than they lose, it's imperative to put it as much effort into trying to find the best wagering opportunities as the guys who are making the numbers. This requires examining golfers' strengths and weaknesses at each course to identify who has the edge before making your golf betting picks. Even small edges make a difference between winning and losing on the golf course and at the betting window.

Betting Value in PGA Golf Picks

Most bettors simply want to have action while they're watching golf or any other sporting event. Most bettors lose, too, which is how sportsbooks are able to stay in business. Casinos have higher hold (or winning) percentages with slot machines (roughly 15-20%). One study found that the house held 12.63% of the Baccarat money, 14.17% on Craps, and 18.91% on Roulette, while sports betting was the lowest hold at 5.56%. Serious gamblers have a far better chance of winning on sporting events than cards or table games.

Wunderdog PGA Tour Picks

I put the time into studying a golfer's recent form, the course layout, injuries, matchups, and the weather. I also have a two-decade track record studying Las Vegas betting lines in all sports. There are reasons behind every betting number posted - as well as mistakes made. When there's variance between what the odds should be and the actual numbers, that's the opportunity to put real money on the line when making your golf bets.

How To Win With PGA Picks

Winning consistently betting golf isn't magic or luck. It's about analyzing each golfer's anticipated performance in comparison to the posted odds. And you assess that anticipated performance by digging deep into the available data. A golfer who won a tournament five years ago may be getting respect from oddsmakers. However, if he has finished 75th, 56th, 39th, and missed the cut in his last four outings, he's overvalued. A golfer who has finished in the Top 30 in each of his last five trips to the same course could be under the radar or undervalued. You won't know that unless you put the effort in, which is what successful golf handicapping is all about.

PGA Picks Betting Strategy

Course Layout

Studying golfing statistics is important but don't overlook the course. Like in baseball where all parks have different dimensions, PGA golf courses have unique designs. Some are long (Pinehurst, Augusta National, Castle Pines Golf Club) while some are long AND considered the most difficult to play (Torrey Pines). Other courses have more obstacles, such as bunkers, water, and ankle-deep rough. Oakmont has the game's fastest putting surfaces. If a course has wide fairways, then accuracy is less of a factor than at a course with thinner fairways. Professional golfers are good enough to adjust their games, just keep in mind that some courses augment individual strengths better than others.

Recent Form

Each PGA golfer has an overall ranking during the year. This gives a good indication of who the Top 25 golfers in the world are. But savvy golf handicappers are more focused on recent form. A golfer may be ranked in the middle of the pack, but if he started the season slow and has four Top 30 finishes in a row, that golfer is playing far better than his overall ranking suggests. This can be attributed to a golfer simply clicking and getting in a groove. Or, it could be related to injuries. Pro golfers can have nagging injuries that impair their game for a few months, then skip a few tournaments to get healed before improving and coming on strong. All of those factor into identifying golfers who are under and overvalued by oddsmakers.

Bounce-Backs

PGA golfers can have a terrible performance on a course that amplifies their weak spots. That doesn't mean they're likely to keep heading in the wrong direction. Each week, golfers play in new tournaments on different courses. Be sure and compare their strengths and weaknesses to project whether they're better suited for the next tournament. Examine how that golfer faired in the past on the upcoming course prior to making your weekly golf picks. This is a way to gauge whether a golfer is likely to bounce back after a poor outing, and there may be some excellent wagering value present.
