Erik Van Rooyen is the most inconsistent golfer on the PGA Tour. He's made the cut six times this season, finishing #22 or better three times along with a third-place finish at the Mexico World Golf Championship. However, every single time he failed to make the cut in his next appearance. He's also been over-par six times. He finished #20 last week at the St. Jude Invitational, but the course at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco this week is not suited for him. It's a long course with very thick rough off the fairway, which means driving and accuracy are key metrics. Van Rooyen is ranked #38 in Strokes Gained Approach-the-Green, plus #97 in Total Driving. In addition, the PGA is speeding up the relatively flat Bentgrass greens, and Van Rooyen is #180 in Total Putting. Brendan Steele has made the cut in four straight appearances and six of his last eight. That includes a fourth-place finish at The Honda Classic, as well as finishing in the Top 13 in two of his last four tournaments. Steele is ranked #32 in Strokes Gained Approach-the-Green, plus #26 in Total Driving. Back Brendan Steele to win this head-to-head matchup for a Max Play.
