Vanderbilt at Mississippi

The favorite in this series has covered the spread 23 of the last 25 times. Vanderbilt has had offensive problems for a long time. They bring back the QB and six others from the offense a year ago, so optimism is bubbling. But, I’m not sure how much that will help. That group collected 71 total points in eight SEC matchups a year ago, good for just 8.9 points per game. This year they have managed just 24 points in two games. The defense kept them from getting blown out in a lot of games, but a lot of that has departed, making this year look equally ugly. They generated just 135 yards at home vs. LSU last time out, and the offense failed to stick it in the end zone for the fourth time in their last nine games vs. SEC opponents. Ole Miss was shocked by Jacksonville State in their opener, but rewinding the tape, that same Jacksonville State team had Florida State looking down the barrel of a loss late into the fourth quarter. Vandy is out-classed here.
