Over the past several seasons, the Cougars were a dynamic offensive team. But this year they have had to make a lot of changes on the offensive line and QB Jake Heaps has not matured into the player they had anticipated. He is completing just 55% of his passes at just 5.4 yards per attempt and has thrown only three TD's to five INT's in the early going. That puts BYU in a dangerous spot here as a TD+ favorite, as this is one of the worst offenses in the country putting up just 16 ppg. The BYU defense has been solid against the run, but are suspect in the air which plays into the strength of the Utah State. The Aggie offense is led by freshman sensation Chuckie Keaton, who has not thrown an INT yet this season. Utah State has been one of the best teams in the country as a road dog, where they are 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22. This team is also 9-2 ATS as a road underdog under head coach Gary Anderson. Meanwhile the now indepedent Cougars are just 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 vs. the WAC and just 2-10 ATS in their last 12 home games when facing a great offense (teams that average 450+ yards per game). Utah State keeps it close enough here.
