UAB opened its season with a 45-35 win over Central Arkansas as Tyler Johnston III completed 17 of 25 with two touchdowns, and Spencer Brown rushed for 127 yards and a TD on 24 carries. Johnston III has plenty of help as Brown is the Blazers' career rushing leader, and they return four offensive line starters. Austin Watkins, Jr. totaled 1,092 receiving yards in 2019, and he had seven receptions for 72 yards against Central Arkansas. Miami comes off an uncharacteristic losing season, which ended with a 14-0 loss to Louisiana Tech in the Independence Bowl. The Hurricanes have lost 11 games outright as favorites the last two years, and Manny Diaz already could be on the hot seat in just his second year at the helm. Miami returns only four defensive starters, but it is depending on transfer quarterback D-Eriq King to ignite the offense after he broke Tim Tebow's record throwing or running for at least one touchdown in each of his first 15 games at Houston. The Hurricanes do lose one of their top running backs in DeeJay Dallas, who opted for the NFL Draft. UAB has covered six of its last seven following an ATS loss, Miami is 4-9 ATS its last 13 versus C-USA teams, and it is also 2-5 ATS its last seven non-conference games overall.
