Troy certainly has a history of success from within the Sun Belt Conference. They had a nice run at or near the top for a few seasons, but no Sun Belt team is able to maintain that level. Last year was a huge step down for Troy, as they finished the season at 3-9 and went winless on the road at 0-7. To see them as a favorite here is more about reputation than evidence of team strength this season. UAB has not had a winning season since 2005, and also finished 3-9. They brought in a Bobby Petrino disciple in Garrick McGee, and the offense should be full of excitement this season. Troy may be better on defense than last year, but they have miles to go as they ranked No. 113 in the country, and with an offensive mind at the helm in Birmingham, I look for UAB to get off to a good start at home. Troy covered just two of their final 10 games a year ago, while despite thre 3-9 straight-up mark, the Blazers covered 7 of their last 10. QB Perry should flourish in the Mcgee system, so I like UAB in this one.
