The Texas State Bobcats will take on the Ohio U. Bobcats to open the 2016 season for each team. Ohio has been one of the most consistent programs in the MAC Conference under the watch of Frank Solich. Solich was 58-19 at Nebraska, before coming to Ohio in 2005. He made an immediate impact by winning three MAC East Titles, and has not finished less than third over the last seven years. Texas State has played an FBS schedule for just four years, and are 20-28 during the period. Texas State is just 7-14 SU outside of the conference in the four years. While Ohio U. will be highly competitive in the MAC, the same can't be said for Texas Sate in the Sun Belt where they are projected to be at or near the bottom off a 3-9 campaign. Everett Withers takes over a program bankrupt of talent, without a starting QB of any caliber, and just eight returning starters. The up-tempo offense will continue, but the problem in doing so is exposing a defense that ranked #124 last year, allowing 522 yards per game, and nearly 40 points per contest. The Bobcats did not record an interception until game nine last year, and with a lot of new faces improvement will be slow. Ohio U. will get plenty of chances for points, and will cash in often. Lay the points on Ohio U.
