After starting 5-0, the Mountaineers have been served a harsh dose of reality, losing their last two in ugly fashion by a combined score of 28-104. It started to look like the Mountaineers were an unstoppable force until they met a couple of teams that could play defense. After piling-up 52 points per game during their 5-0 start, they have scored just 14 in each of their last two against good defenses. As good as the 52 ppg was, the defense is allowing 53 ppg over the last four. A competent TCU team can certainly impact the game with their defense, as well as score against what is the worst defense in CFB. The Horned Frogs have gotten to 49 points on three occasions this season and have allowed 21 or less in five of their eight games. They certainly should generate enough stops to outscore the Mountaineers’ defense here. The Horned Frogs are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 off a loss. They have also had a couple of weeks to prepare here where they have been lethal, at 6-0 ATS in their last six after a bye. West Virginia is leaking oil at home vs. winning road teams, now at 2-12-1 ATS in their last 15. And, as head man at TCU, Gary Patterson is an amazing 17-4 ATS following back-to-back ATS losses. TCU gets the call here.
