Rutgers defense fared well in the early going, but they soon found out that playing in the Big-10 Conference is quite the challenge, and a war of depth and attrition at the same time. The Scarlet Knights allowed just 21.7 points per game over their first six as they soared to a 5-1 record. That is where things changed. Rutgers began to wear out, became injured, and finished the season at 2-4. They went from allowing 21.7 points per game in the first six, to 40.1 points per in the last six, and at the same time the offense produced 17 or less points in three of their last six. They will be severely challenged by the North Carolina offense that has topped the 40 point mark six times on the season. While a defense that allowed over 50 points per game over a four game stretch earlier in the season, is far from very good, but improving. The Knights are going to have to win a shootout here, and that simply is not their game. And the defense has proven to be over-matched vs. a very good offense over the second half of the season. Make the play on North Carolina minus the field goal.
